The method
How things end up on this list
Anyone can paste a hundred product links on a page and call it a store. That is not what this is. Every entry here has been through the same four steps, and things get removed as readily as they get added.
I'm ZootedElf, and I'll be straight with you about what this is: an affiliate site. If you buy something through a link here, I earn a small cut of it — at no extra cost to you.
I do not own everything on this list, and I am not going to pretend I do. Plenty of sites like this one will tell you they personally tested forty products last month. They did not. What I actually do is the boring part: going through the listings, the review histories and the complaints, and throwing out the ones that fall apart under a closer look.
You are paying me in commission for filtering, not for a review I invented. That is a smaller promise than most affiliate sites make, and it is one I can actually keep.
The four steps
I start from what buyers actually say
No brand relationships, no free units, nobody owed a favour. Picks start from the review history and the specs, not from a press release or whatever a company wanted written about them.
I read past the five-star reviews
The five-star reviews tell you almost nothing. The three-star ones are where people explain what actually broke, what arrived wrong, and what stopped working in month four. That is the part worth reading, so that is the part I read.
Every pick names its catch
Every entry says what to watch out for. Not a token complaint — the real one, the thing buyers keep raising once the newness wears off. If I cannot find a genuine drawback, I have not looked hard enough to be writing about it yet.
It stays only while it earns the spot
The list gets pruned. When something gets discontinued, quietly revised, or beaten by a better option, it comes off. A recommendation list that only ever grows is a list nobody is maintaining.
Things I will not do
Take payment for placement
No brand can buy a spot on this list, at any price.
Chase the commission
Rates differ by category. The cheaper thing wins if it is the better thing.
Fake first-hand experience
I will not invent a story about testing something I have never held.
Pad the list to fill space
A short honest list beats a long padded one. Always.
This site earns a commission when you buy through its links. It never decides what gets recommended, and it never changes what I say about the downsides.
